    Women In Defense Mid-Atlantic Chapter Scholarship

    WOMEN IN DEFENSE
    MID-ATLANTIC CHAPTER

     STEM Education Scholarship

    The Women In Defense (WID) Mid-Atlantic Chapter STEM Education Scholarship provides funding to female high school seniors pursuing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers related to the national security and defense interests of the United States. The WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter STEM Education Scholarship, valued at $2,500.00, is an annual, single-award scholarship. Through this scholarship, WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter helps shape the future defense and national security workforce.

    A review panel, composed of WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter Scholarship Committee members, will evaluate the applications and recommend scholarship awards to the WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter Board of Directors. The Directors approve the scholarships on behalf of the chapter.

    Awardees are not eligible to win more than one scholarship from WID Mid-Atlantic Chapter in a calendar year.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Applicants must meet the following criteria without exception:

    1. Identify as a female; be a high school senior working toward a diploma and actively pursuing college enrollment at an accredited public college/university/institute.

    2. Be pursuing a higher education (Associates or Bachelors) degree and career related to STEM and national security or defense in the following areas: military history, government relations, engineering, computer science, cyber security, physics, mathematics, law (as it relates to national security or defense), life and physical sciences, homeland security, emergency management, international relations, political science, law enforcement, criminology or economics. Others will be considered if the applicant can successfully demonstrate relevance to a career in the areas of national security or defense.     3. Hold a cumulative minimum weighted grade point average of 3.0 as of the 1st quarter of the school-year (senior year). An official transcript must be included in the application package.

    4. Be a United States citizen and reside within Baltimore, Cecil, Harford, York, or Lancaster Counties, or Baltimore City.

    5. Submit a completed application package, in proper format, by June, 2, 2017.

    6. Demonstrate the need for financial assistance – Write a statement explaining how receiving this scholarship will make a difference in your educational pursuits.

    Deadline, Application, Notification

    All applicants must provide a completed application package including the application form, one-page essay, signed media and photo release statement, and a sealed official transcript. Applicants must sign the media and photo release statement from the cover letter in order to allow the chapter to release their name upon award, and subsequent photo. A photo will be requested from the winner(s) only.

    Nursing Schools Almanac

    ASPIRING NURSE SCHOLARSHIP

    Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its third annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. The website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:

    + A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics
    + A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare 

    This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight on June 30, 2017

          The first scholarship is the "Aspiring Animation Professional" Scholarship Program. This is the 5th year we are awarding this scholarship for AnimationCareerReview.com. We are offering high school seniors the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship.  This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college.           2017 ASPIRING BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
           
          The 2nd scholarship was started late last year and is being offered again this year.  "Aspiring Business Professional" Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a business degree at any accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit this link http://www.onlinembareport.com/ombar-aspiring-business-professional-scholarship-program and find the scholarship located at the right side of the page and click on it.

          The deadline for both scholarships is June 1, 2017.
             

            Pennsylvania American Legion Scholarships

            PENNSYLVANIA AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS

            1. ESSAY CONTEST* - Open to any student in 9th-12th grade who is enrolled in a Pennsylvania school is eligible.  Essay is between 500-1000 words on a topic chosen by the committee.  1st-$3500.00, 2nd-$3000.00 and 3rd-$2500.00 placed awarded.

            2. ORATORICAL CONTEST* - Open to any student in 9th-12th grade who is enrolled in a Pennsylvania school is eligible.  Consists of two parts, one a memorized oration and an extemporary oration on an assigned topic.  1st-$7500.00, 2nd-$5000.00 and 3rd-$4000.00 places awarded.

            3. SEBASTIANELLI DRUM CORPS SCHOLARSHIP* - Open to any senior who is child or grandchild of a Pennsylvania LEgionnaire living or deceased.  The student must be a member of a high school band and is going on to higher education with a major in music.  Winner received $500.00.

            4. JOSEPH P GAVENONIS SCHOLARSHIP* - Open to any Pennsylvania high school senior who is child/grandchild of a Pennsylvania Legionnaire.  The student needs to be seeking a four year degree in a Pennsylvania college or university.

            5. ROBERT W VALIMONT ENDOWMENT* - Open to any Pennsylvania high school senior who is achild/grandchuild of a Pennsylvania Legionnaire.  The student needs to be seeking a two year career-oriented education or training in a less-than four-year program in a Pennsylvania school.

            6. ROBERT TRACE ESSAY CONTEST* - Open to students 15-18 years of age who is child or grandchild of a Pennsylvania Legionnaire living or deceased or child of Pennsylvania soldier killed as a result of war on terriorism.  300-500 word essay on the topic "Patriotism and Citizenship - What America means to me?"  Winner receives $500.00.

            WEEK-LONG CAMPS WITH THE POSSIBILITY TO EARN SCHOLARSHIP MONEY

            1. KEYSTONE BOYS STATE* - Open to any male student who has completed their junior year and resides in Pennsylvania.  KBS students practice and operate fictitious cities, four counties and one state, based on the statues and codes of the State of Pennsylvania.  About the 3rd full week of June @ Shippensburg University.  Local legion posts wills ponsor the students to attend.  There is a Keystone Girls State - Contact an auxiliary unit.

            2. STATE POLICE YOUTH WEEK* - Open to any male or female student who is 15-17 years old and resides in Pennsylvania.  The student should be in good health and physically fit.  This camp is run like a boot camp, to introduce students interested in law enforcement or a branch of the armed forces. Cadets march in platoons, do physical training and have instructional time.  About the second full week of June @ York College of Pennsylvania.  Local legion posts will sponsor the student to attend.

              Eligibiilty:

              Eligibility:

            3. Global Lift Equipment Scholarship - $500 – 1 Award (Deadline: June 15, 2017)
              Eligibility:
              (A) Be currently attending or planning on attending a post-secondary institution in the US no later than the Fall of 2017. (B) Submit a short story.             4. Lift Parts Express Scholarship - $500 – 1 Award (Deadline: June 30, 2017)

                HAMILTON RELAY SCHOLARSHIP

                Continuing your education?  Hamilton Relay $500 Scholarship is available for high school seniors who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking.

                Hamilton Relay selects a recipient within each of the states where Hamilton is the contracted Telecommunications Relay and/or Captioned Telephone service provider.  This opportunity is one of several ways the company gives back to the community it serves.  All candidates are required to submit an application, write an essay under the topic of communication technology and provide a letter of recommendation in order to qualify.  The application documents can also be found online at www.hamiltonrelay.com

                    Four-Way Test Speech Contest


                    The Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest is a dynamic contest which targets 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in all area high schools in our seven county region including; Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York Counties.  Students attending public, private or charter schools as well as home-schooled individuals are encouraged to participate.

                    The Four-Was Test Speech Contest involves having students write and deliver a speech that is five to eight minutes in length.  The speech must also be based on Rotary's Four-Way Test:

                    What is the Rotary Four-Way Test?

                    1. Is it the truth?
                    2. Is it fair to all concerned?
                    3. Will it build good will and better friendships?
                    4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

                    Graduating seniors from a school in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, or York county with plans to attend HACC’s Harrisburg Campus as a full-time student to study in the LPN program.

                    Graduating seniors who are dependent children of employees of Eichelbergers, Inc. (employed for at least one year), with a minimum 2.5 GPA, planning to attend any two or four year college in PA.

                    National Scholarships


                    It starts with good grades. But goes beyond.

                    The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program rewards students who have succeeded both inside and outside of the classroom – and who may not be able to attend college without financial assistance. It’s a reward for what you’ve made of yourself and the difference you are making for others.

                    The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is offering:

                    • Up to $25,000 per year for 50 first-time freshmen or existing college students, renewable for up to four years and one additional year for those entering a qualified five-year engineering program

                      Varsity Tutor's Scholarshp

                      Varsity Tutors Scholarship Contest Description

                      Varsity Tutors holds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest where students write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship.
